about

DUNCE is the alias of South East London based musician and artist Tom Armstrong. Changing direction from playing with the likes of Jerkcurb, Findom, Familiar Action and others, and other South London bands, DUNCE explores a more ambient and experimental terrain. A five-piece band with live visual accompaniment make up the current largely improvisational ensemble.

Taking cues from Jon Hassell, William Basinski, Pierre Bastien, Philip Glass & John Lurie, DUNCE treads the line between experimental minimalism and free improvisation, comprised mostly of 4-track cassette tape loops and improvised trumpet playing. ‘Life? Or Theatre?’ Is a collaboration between Armstrong and visual artist Alfie Millar who’s videos accompany the music on the album.
